Events and Activities

Each year, The Friends presents a vast array of free cultural programs - including author readings, discussions, lectures, music events, and theater programs.

The Friends has presented cultural programs since its founding in 1945, but in the last few years, has dramatically increased the number of public programs, offering more than 150 events attracting over 8,000 people each year. The Friends organization is proud to have received the American Library Association's highest national recognition for programming, the Marshall Cavendish Award for Excellence in Library Programming, and has served as the lead library agency in Minnesota for the American Library Association's Library Networks for Literature project.
