About The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library:
The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library acts as a catalyst for libraries to strengthen and inspire their communities. An independent, nonprofit organization established in 1945, The Friends invests in the Library through fundraising, advocacy, and programming; as a result, the Saint Paul Public Library is a nationally-recognized leader in philanthropy. The Friends also serves libraries across the country and internationally through its consulting services, Library Strategies, and promotes literacy, reading, and libraries statewide as the Library of Congress-designated Minnesota Center for the Book.

About the position:
The Friends is seeking an energetic individual who will support the activities of The Friends as the Minnesota Center for the Book. This individual will gain experience in a broad range of content creation, primarily for digital channels; experience in program coordination; and come away with exposure to Minnesota’s contemporary writers and literary legacy, as well as familiarity with the Library of Congress state Centers for the Book.

Responsibilities will include:

Minnesota Writers Directory

  • Partner on the creation and implementation of a new blog to supplement the author search tool; solicit, copyedit and schedule original content from the Minnesota writers community
  • Format photos and other author profile content

Minnesota Writers on the Map

  • Compile author profile information for website supplement to print map (this includes transferring existing information and research and writing new copy)
  • Research, write copy, and schedule blog posts with author profile information
  • Fulfill paper map requests

Letters About Literature

  • Process letter submissions (scanning and data entry)
  • Communicate with teachers and judges

Minnesota Book Awards

  • Assist in the coordination of judging panels (in late January and early March)
  • Coordinate blog posts promoting 2020 finalists
  • Assist in the coordination of the April Awards Ceremony

Additional Info:

  • Position reports directly to Assistant Director of Programs & Services
  • The position is part-time at approximately 8 hours per week, flexible within 9-5 weekday workday
  • Stipend offered based on length of commitment
