Minnesota’s Poet Laureate

Call for Nominations: Minnesota’s Next Poet Laureate

Submissions to be Minnesota’s Poet Laureate are now open through the Minnesota Humanities Center. Both self-nominations and nominations of someone else are welcome.

Minnesota’s Poet Laureate will participate in various events around the state to promote and encourage appreciation of and engagement with poetry, engage marginalized voices in poetry, and champion poetry and spoken word in Minnesota.

Nominees must be a current resident of Minnesota, continue to live in the state throughout the appointment, and have demonstrated a previous commitment to promoting awareness of poetry through public events and activities engaging a variety of audiences.

The Poet Laureate, ultimately appointed by the Governor, will be awarded a $3,500 stipend per year from the Minnesota Humanities Center. The deadline for nominations is March 17, and the Minnesota Humanities Center will send the short list of finalists to the Governor’s Office by April 13 for final selection.
