This money will go directly to our Library to help offset rising costs and meet increasing demand for books, eBooks, movies, music, and more.

Why is The Friends asking for this additional money in 2026?

The City of Saint Paul includes money in the Library’s budget each year to purchase the materials we check out. Due to financial constraints, the 2026 budget does not include enough money to keep up with the rising cost of materials and increasing demand.

In addition to our ongoing fundraising efforts, The Friends is committed to raising an additional $62,000 to send directly to Saint Paul Public Library this year. With this money, our Library can continue to purchase books, movies, and music that represent our diverse interests. 

Will this money cover materials besides books?

Will this money close the entire funding gap this year?

When our $62,000 is combined with the City’s 2026 contribution, the Library’s collection budget will be sufficient for 2026. However, additional funds from The Friends are for this year only; the City will need to identify additional sources of funding next year to continue to keep pace with both costs and demand.
