This is one of five neighborhood workshops held with different teaching artists that will inspire the creation of a neighborhood poem. A final reading and presentation of the poems will take place on Wednesday, April 11 at the Arlington Hills Community Center.

Vincent Moniz, Jr.’s workshop will explore forms of poetry, from villanelles to contemporary “I Am” poem variations and how these forms can be the basis of the poet’s personal expression. Participants of all writing ability and experience are welcome.

NuuÉtaare tribal member and an enrolled citizen of the Three Affiliated Tribes on the Ft. Berthold Indian Reservation, R. Vincent Moniz, Jr. is a Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grantee, 2016 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grantee, and current and reigning Individual World Poetry Slam Indigenous Slam Champion. His first book, Redoubted, is due in 2018 from MSU Press.
