Prized WritersThe Prized Writers series is a co-production of the Minnesota Book Awards and Twin Cities Public Television – Minnesota Channel. It is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning; and the Minnesota Department of Education – State Library Agency, with funding under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

Matters of Fact

“Matters of Fact” is an engaging conversation between two writers of nonfiction: award-winning authors David Lebedoff (Cleaning Up) and Jack El-Hai (The Lobotomist). The pair compare writing styles and personal methods, from writing in longhand to working in coffee shops. They trade views on writers’ block, their sources of inspiration and the advantages of writing non-fiction.

“Making Histories” features two accomplished Minnesota Book Award winners: Dave Kenney (Honor Bright: A Century of Scouting in Northern Star Council and Northern Lights: The Stories of Minnesota’s Past) and Mary Lethert Wingerd (North Country: The Making of Minnesota). The authors discuss their approach to research and writing, and the importance of preserving stories about Minnesota’s past.

The Poetic Lens

The third episode of the Minnesota Book Awards’ writers in conversation series, “The Poetic Lens” features poets Deborah Keenan and Jim Moore discussing the unique approach of poets as they view and translate the world around them, and the work that earned each of them a Minnesota Book Award. Produced with the Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library. Moore was a four-time winner, with Freedom of History (Poetry 1989), Lightning at Dinner (Poetry 2006), The Long Experience of Love (Poetry 1996), and What it’s like here: (Fine Press 2007) with book artists Regula Russelle & CB Sherlock. Keenan won the Minnesota Book Award for Poetry in 2007 with Willow Room, Green Door.
