Novelist Marlon Jamesย kicks off the series with a reading from his new book,ย A Brief History of Seven Killings. Described by theย New York Timesย as โsweeping, mythic, over-the-top, colossal and dizzyingly complex,โ Jamesโ new book uses the 1976 assassinationย attempt on Bob Marley as a springboard to explore Jamaican society and culture. ย James teaches creative writing and English atย Macalester College in Saint Paul.ย
Update: A Brief History of Seven Killings went on to win the Minnesota Book Award for Novel and Short Story, and the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Fiction. It is also on the long list for the Man Booker Prize.
