Weโre so thrilled that Wanda M. Morris will join us for this yearโsย Opus & Olives. In preparation for the big event, we asked Wanda a few questions to help fans get to know her better. This is an #opusexclusive.
Tell us something people might not know about you.ย
I wrote my very first book, All Her Little Secrets in secret! Not even my husband knew I was writing a book. At the time, I was working as a corporate lawyer in a very stressful job, being a wife and mom to three kids and traveling cross country on business. I thought if people knew I was writing a book and adding one more thing to my very long list of responsibilities, they’d question my judgement! I’d always wanted to write books but tamped down the desire to pursue a dream.ย
What is one thing about your book you are proud of and why?ย ย
I am proud of the fact that my book, What You Leave Behind, shines a light on a little known legal concept called heirs property. Heirs property impacts the financial stability and generational wealth of many disenfranchised communities in this country. I hope it continues to spark conversations around this important issue and ultimately brings about change.ย
Tell us what you love about libraries.ย ย
I know it sounds cliche, but I am enamored with libraries! Ever since the first time I stepped inside one holding my mother’s hand as a little girl up to present day. The solace, the ability to escape from the world through books, the librarians who always know the right book to recommend–I love all of it. Fun fact: I wrote my first book in the library while I was working in corporate America. Every day, during my lunch break, I’d head over to the library around the corner from my job, sit in the same carrel, and write for an hour or two. That library became my personal writing retreat each day. I still write in libraries when I need to switch up my routine.ย ย
Meet Wanda and the rest of ourย bestselling lineupย in person on October 13 at the RiverCentre in downtown Saint Paul!
