Opus Exclusive: Jade Chang

We’re thrilled that Jade Chang will join us for this year’s Opus & Olives in support of The Friends and libraries. In preparation for the big event, we asked Jade a few questions to help fans get to know her better. This is an #opusexclusive.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

I started reading Ulysses when I was in Budapest – for an entire week I tore through it, loving every word and wondering why people thought it was so difficult – the second I crossed the Hungarian border the book turned into an impenetrable thicket of words and I have not been able to understand a word of it since.

What is one thing about your book you are proud of and why?

I’m always trying to find the balance between sharp, honest satire and a loving, generous worldview – I hope I came close to it in What a Time to Be Alive.

Tell us what you love about libraries.

Stepping into a library always gives me a rush of maximalist glee. I love being in a place where you can go a dozen levels deeper on any topic and your curiosity is often rewarded in the most unexpected ways!

Meet Jade and the rest of our bestselling lineup on October 12 at the RiverCentre in downtown Saint Paul!
