When Fitzgerald was fourteen years old and living in Saint Paul, he began keeping a diary of his exploits among friends, friendly rivals, and crushes. Published by the University of Minnesota Press, the Thoughtbook is the first publication of a complete transcription of this diary. It includes a new introduction by Dave Page that covers the diaryโs place in Fitzgeraldโs literary development and its revelations about his life and writing process.
The event will be held in the historic and magnificent James J. Hill House, one of Fitzgeraldโs haunts, and a site of the Minnesota Historical Society. The event is co-sponsored by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, and is supported by the Richard P. McDermott Fitzgerald Fund of The Saint Paul Foundation.
